But did you know it can help speed up the metabolism and help with weight loss? It’s never a bad idea to drink a little more water every day. While eating more protein won’t single-handedly make you lose weight and gain muscle, it plays a big part in both! Drink Water Protein needs much more energy to digest and process than most other nutrients.Īs you get older, it’s common to lose some of your muscle mass, and protein helps quite a bit with retaining muscle. One of the easier changes to make to speed up your metabolism is to eat more protein. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to speed it up! Eat More Protein When your metabolism is quicker, you naturally burn more calories when at rest and when exercising, which makes it easier to lose weight. Your body needs more calories to absorb and process the nutrients you’re taking in, so the metabolism adjusts to do this. When you eat food or drink water, your metabolism speeds up to begin turning the food into energy. Substance usage, extreme heat or cold, and your diet play heavily into how quickly or slowly your metabolism works! As you get older, your metabolism tends to slow down, so making a conscious effort to control your diet and exercise more can contribute a great deal to your metabolic rate. There are some environmental factors that can affect your metabolism as well. The speed of your metabolism is determined by several influential factors. Think about it like your body is maintaining itself-this is called your “ basal metabolic rate.” Things like breathing, your heart pumping, your brain working, regulating temperature, or healing a bruise all need a level of energy to be performed. It’s commonly mistaken that your metabolism really only kicks in when exercising, but this isn’t true even at rest, your body is naturally burning calories and turning them into energy. Simply put: metabolism is the process where your body converts food and drink into energy. And that’s one of the best choices you can make! What Does Metabolism Do? Whether you live on your own, with your family, or in assisted or independent living, there are several steps you can take to help speed up your metabolism and live a healthier life. Changing up your diet, exercising more often and more efficiently, and leading a healthier lifestyle, you can speed up your metabolism and make it easier to keep those pesky extra pounds away. However, speeding up your metabolism increases the number of calories your body burns while at rest and while moving, which can lead to weight loss. With the natural loss of muscle mass, the tendency to slow down as the years go by, and a diet that may not be the most health-conscious, it can be challenging to stay in shape. As we age, metabolism slows down, which makes it easier to put on a few pounds here or there, and much harder to lose them. The left panel is filled with shapes to add to your diagram. It has a fine grid on it that you can turn off if you choose. The center of the screen in draw.io is where you’ll be drawing your diagrams. If you’re going to draw diagrams online, you’ll need to store them somewhere so the first question you’re faced with when you go to draw.io is whether you want to save to Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive or your local device. You’re not stuck with that decision every time you open draw.io you let it know where you want to save your work. Problem number 2 to be solved for me is that I find it very difficult to use, I think the menus are confusing and I swear a great deal while I’m using it.ĭraw.io is a free alternative that’s web-based, and works across Macs, PCs, iOS, Android and Windows Phone. This all might be ok if I was in love with OmniGraffle. After paying $100 for the standard version of OmniGraffle 5, the upgrade price was another $50! I’ve done the upgrade dance from 4 to 5 to 6 not because I saw a huge improvement in the tool, but because every single time I opened the app I had to close a window to tell them I didn’t want to upgrade. Problem 1.5 is that even if you do buy OmniGraffle, they do what they call major point releases pretty often (every 1-2 years) and the upgrade pricing is huge. So just a casual user would be out $150 to use it on their Mac and iOS devices. The OmniGroup also sells an iOS version but it’s $50 for standard and $100 for the Pro version. $100 is a lot of money for a casual use program these days. OmniGraffle for Mac is $100…for their standard version. This week I’d like to tell you about a free diagram/flowchart tool you might want to use instead of the very expensive OmniGraffle. A few weeks ago I told you about the simple outlining tool Tree that I use instead of the very expensive industry darling, OmniGroup’s OmniOutliner. To adjust the amount of screen real estate given over to either app in Split View, drag the app divider to the left or right. The second app will appear side by side with the current app. Touch and hold another app in the Dock, then drag it up out of the Dock to the left or right edge of the screen.Slide one finger up from the bottom edge of the screen until the Dock appears, then release.Tap another app on the Home screen or in the Dock that you want to view on the other half of the screen. Then cut the shapes out and let your children sort!Ĭoloring books and shape workbooks are a wonderful way to work on shapes. Grab some blocks or other key shapes and trace them onto a shoebox or other box. These sorters practice shape recognition, problem-solving skills, and spatial relations, all in one little toy. (In fact, Ali and Sammy’s favorite shape sorter came from Walgreens for about $5.) But if you want to make it more specific, try cutting shapes out of construction paper. Regular household items and kid toys come in all shapes. You don’t need anything special for this. Preschoolers can look for more than one shape at a time, adding in sorting practice along with the shape practice. It is easier to focus on one shape at a time with toddlers. I have my children gather up anything that is triangle shaped, or circles. It doesn’t matter what we are looking for, they adore it. You don’t need big explanations, especially with very young toddlers. You can read the square book or play with the triangle magnet. Whatever it is, we can naturally add descriptors that are teaching our children. For example, you don’t just hand your child a cup you hand them the blue cup. Everything you share with your children has two names. My mother-in-law calls the toddler years the years of two names. The simplest way to work on shapes is just to talk about them. I think we try to make teaching our children too hard sometimes. Rimbaud died in Marseille in November of 1891, at the age of 37. Only after the amputation did doctors determine Rimbaud was, in fact, suffering from cancer. In 1891, Rimbaud was misdiagnosed with a case of tuberculosis synovitis and advised to have his leg removed. By 1880, he would give up writing altogether for a more stable life as merchant in Yemen, where he stayed until a painful condition in his knee forced him back to France for treatment. It was to be Rimbaud’s final publication. The following year, Rimbaud traveled to London with the poet Germain Nouveau, to compile and publish his transcendent Illuminations. The act sent Verlaine to prison and Rimbaud back to Charleville to finish his work on A Season in Hell. Their relationship reached a boiling point in the summer of 1873, when Verlaine, frustrated by an increasingly distant Rimbaud, attacked his lover with a revolver in a drunken rage. By late September 1871, at the age of sixteen, Rimbaud had ignited with Verlaine one of the most notoriously turbulent affairs in the history of literature. Shortly thereafter, Rimbaud sent his work to the renowned symbolist poet Paul Verlaine and received in response a one-way ticket to Paris. Read more school, Rimbaud excelled in his studies and, encouraged by a private tutor, tried his hand at poetry. Unknown beyond the avant-garde at the time of his death in 1891, Arthur Rimbaud has become one of the most liberating influences on twentieth-century culture. While he was working on them he spoke of his interest in hallucinations––"des vertiges, des silences, des nuits." These perceptions were caught by the poet in a beam of pellucid, and strangely active language which still lights up––now here, now there––unexplored aspects of experience and thought. He is best known for A Season in Hell, but his other prose poems are no less remarkable. Yet he had already produced some of the finest examples of French verse. Fired in childhood with an ambition to write, he gave up poetry before he was twenty-one. Rimbaud was indeed the most astonishing of French geniuses. Varèse first published her versions of Rimbaud’s Illuminations in 1946. They are offered here both in their original texts and in superb English translations by Louise Varèse.
